AN INCREASINGLY BETTER QUALITY OF CROATIAN WINES

The production of wine and grapes in the Croatian region of Zagorje has a long tradition. A traditional wine fare entitled ‘Bedekovcina ’99’, which began at the beginning of May, has just been completed. In comparison to previous years, this year’s judging of wines presented at the fair, was organised at a single location according to world standards and in agreement with the Association of Croatian Wine-experts. Samples of wine were assessed by three various commissions comprised of five members each, who were familiar prior to the judging only with the sample number and the wine category, according to the Bill on Wines. More than 250 samples were judged over a two day period, with more than 70 percent of samples this year being a mixture of white wines. About 10,000 people visited the fair.
