I first learned of Ivan
Mestrovic at the University of Notre Dame while my daughter was a student there in the
1980's. I fell in love with his work which is displayed there. An acquaintance told me
about this site and I have visited it several times. The story about Ivan Mestrovic's life
was very moving. The plight of Croatia and Croatian people has saddened me. I plan to
return to this site and complete my "Gallery Tour" of Mestrovic's works on
the slides.
Thank you so much for providing us with this beautiful presentation of this remarkable
man's life. Why hasn't someone made a movie of his life? There are so many people who know
nothing of this genius. To see his Pieta at Sacred Heart is a moving experience. I have
seen it many times and hope to see if again. Thank you again. |

Hi...it's me again...answer
for Drina....yes I am related to Zvono (that's what we called him) My grandfather and his
grandfather are brothers. so I guess that makes me his second cousin...I live in Split
right now..I'm originally from Canada..he actually came to visit my family down there (in
Hercegovina) right after Croatia was done in the World Cup....he's cool..down to earth. Anyway

My husband is from Croatia.
He came here when he was 23. His mother is also here in the U.S. now. I want to keep his
traditions and language alive with our family, but, as you know, it is difficult to find
books and products in the US. So, these are my questions: we live in Philadelphia (one
year) and I am wanting to find books for children written in Croatian (we are raising our
son bilingual.) We bought some while we were visiting, but I would like to get more. Also,
I like to make the stuffed sour cabbage for dinner during the Christmas season, but since
we left Chicago, i can't find whole cabbages that are sour. Does anyone have any
suggestions as to where I should look for such an item?
