BOEHM
LONDON -- The company
behind the $20 million animated TV series "
Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future" has advanced plans to make a
feature based on the classic British comicbook hero, possibly in partnership
with Columbia TriStar.
Columbia TriStar Intl. Television has picked
up the worldwide rights to the
Dan Dare Corp.'s 26-part series, which features British stars Robbie Coltrane, Tim
Curry and Charles Dance. Skein's theme tune, written by Elton John and
Bernie Taupin, is performed by John.
Series was funded with British cash through
the Dan Dare Corp., an indie headed by
producer Colin Frewin, who also holds the rights to the 1950s character
described as the "007 of outer space."
A second series, and the script for the
feature, are in development. A spokesman said most of the funding for the
multimillion-dollar project was already in place.
