Following was submitted to me by Vlado Hent from Osijek, Croatia

Plavi Vjesnik appeared in mid. 1999 as number 980. 
The idea was that the comic would continue from the last number (979) of the original Plavi Vjesnik in 1973. Only two issues were published. Then after three years, Plavi Vjesnik again appears in 2001 with 5 only issues.

Vlado Hent iz Osijeka mi je 23 marta 2002 poslao sljedecu informaciju:

U zadnjih nekoliko godina (4-5) su nekoliko puta pokusavali ponovo pokrenuti Plavi Vjesnik no nazalost neuspjesno. Ni jednom nisu izgurali vise od pet brojeva. U drugom i trecem pokusaju su izdali samo jedan broj (ili je to bio isti pokusaj s jednogodisnjim ritmom izlazenja). Ovaj zadnji pokusaj (2001) je dogurao do petog broja sti sto su tri put mjenjali format i graficki izgled a cetvrti broj nije ni distribuiran kako treba (u Osijek nije ni stigao). Sve u svemu jad i bijeda.

Vlado opet pise 24 marta 2002:
Originalni Plavac je prestao izlaziti cini mi se ' 73. godine. Zadnji broj mu je bio 979 pa je izdavac mislio napraviti stos time sto ce nastaviti brojati tamo gdje se stalo no izasla su cini mi se samo dva broja. U drugom broju opisuju igru GP 500 a najavljuju je za listopad ' 99. U prvom broju je bio tekst o filmu Godzila (1998) to su jedine reference iz kojih se moze odrediti godina u kojoj je strip stampan. Na zadnjoj strani drugog broja pozivaju na pretplatu no ja treci broj nisam nikad vidio. Tu je nastupila stanka do svibnja 2001.  kad krece novi pokusaj ( tu sam fulao u broju fali mi treci a ne cetvrti broj) i mjenjaju tri formata a 6. broj se jos nije pojavio (vjerojatno i nece jer je proslo 4 mjeseca od zadnjeg broja). Nakon kratke potrage nasao sam onaj treci pokusaj (u stvari prvi) ponovnog izlazenja pa ti saljem i njegov sken pojavio se polovicom 1992.g. Imam 6 brojeva pa pretpostavljam da 7. nije ni bilo.

Vlado Hent from Osijek, Croatia, sent me following e-mail on March 23, 2002. Here is the translation:

During the past few years (4-5), they tried to restart Plavi Vjesnik again but unfortunately without success. Not once were they able to push out more than five issues. In second and third attempt, they published only one issue. This last (2001) attempt made it to issue No. five but in the process, they changed the format and graphic design three times while issue No. four was not distributed properly (never arrived in Osijek). In all, a poor and miserable show.

On March 24, 2002, Vlado again writes:
Plavi Vjesnik stopped publishing in 1973. The last number was 979 so the publisher wanted to continue from where the original Plavac stopped, but I believe that only two issues got published. The second issue describes the game GP 500 coming out in Oct. 1999. In the first issue there was some text about the film Godzilla (1998) so those are the only references by which we can guess the year in which the comic was printed. On the last page of the first issue, they ask for subscription but I never saw the third issue. There was a pause from here to May 2001 when a new publishing attempt was made and three format changes occur and no. 6 has not appeared yet (it might not appear at all since 4 months have passed since the last number). After a short search, I found the third attempt (actually the first one) at publishing so I am sending you the cover of the comic which appeared in mid. 1992. I have 6 numbers and assume that the 7'th never appeared.

Plavi Vjesnik (Plavac) first published on October 1, 1954 in the city of Zagreb, Croatia by the publishing house "Vjesnik". It carried Dan Dare comic strip for many years and it was the magazine's main feature. Plavac went out of business in 1973 with issue 979. For my scan of issue 965, click here.

Plavi Zabavnik appeared in 1992 with 6 issues, then Plavi Vjesnik with two issues in 1999 (nos. 980, 981) and again as Plavi Vjesnik with only five issues in 2001. They carried Dan Dare's: The Red Moon Mystery and The Man from Nowhere. It is interesting to note that only Zabavnik was pubished by Vjesnik, the original publisher. Why Vjesnik never chose to use its original, sucessful trademark name is beyond me.
