CLUB NEWS
The big news of course is the return from hospital of Phil EO, after granting him a couple of week-end passes they finally sent him home for good, where, after languishing around the hospital for 8 weeks, he is now trying to catch up with everything. Nice to have you back on the nets Phil. Ev’s surprise 80th Birthday bash apparently lasted a week , 50 people sat down for the Birthday Dinner including Art AHX, Terry AWE and Fred ACR. I am sure it is a memory you will cherish forever Ev. Art AHX is presently recovering from a bout of pneumonia and should be back to his normal self by now. There was one casualty from the early Feb bulletin, one of our regular meeting attendees showed up for the meeting one week early. I will refrain from naming him or making any snide remarks Hi. We had a good turn-out for the real meeting, 11 members and a visitor Faisal VA3SFA who came along with Michael PNX. For the record we had the following members present. AIA, ACR, AR, BHZ, DO, EMD, EQF, FZL, ILE, PNX & UT. Faisal is a member of the Skywide club. Ivan VE3DO gave us a very interesting talk on, and demonstration of the equipment used out in sunny California for keeping track of and billing vehicles using the toll roads there. Apparently a secondary use is applied at some MacDonalds Restaurants situated near interchanges where you can use your transponder at the ‘drive thru’ window and charge your purchase to your highway toll bill. Apparently they have become known as “Tollburgers”. Thanks again Ivan.
The yearly dinner at the Lynden was discussed and it was decided to hold it during the 3rd week of April dependant upon a convenient date for the restaurant. Stay tuned for further information.
Vic reported that all members except one have paid dues for the current year.
I will include a final reminder to him with his copy of Signal.
Hope you all got your fair share of the DXpeditions which were active during February, wall to wall pile-ups on many bands and fun for all.
