Flag of The Kingdom of BHUTAN
The recently completed DXpedition to The Kingdom of Bhutan celebrated the re-introduction of Amateur Radio to this tiny country. After many years of inactivity it was number 3 on the "Most Wanted List". That has undoubtedly changed after this magnificent Dxpedition created pile-ups on every band (160 to 6) on all modes. Commencing with the first QSO at 1409Z May 2nd and ending at 0227Z May 12th they made an amazing 82,087 contacts around the world. 42,088 on CW, 37,263 on SSB and 2,736 on RTTY. Club member Chris VE3EQF was grinning from ear to ear (or should that be from ‘ere to ere for us Limeys) having captured them on 15 meters RTTY for a ‘new one’. Another member, Vic VE3AIA, who keeps worrying about falling off the DXCC Honour Roll, solidified his position by working them on 20 CW and adding Bhutan to his country total. I am sure there are thousands of very happy DXers out there and thanks must go to not only the excellent DXpedition crew but also to Jim Smith VK9NS (A52JS) who has been working very hard over the past several years to get recognition and government authorization for Amateur Radio in The Kingdom of Bhutan. A job very well done Jim. Now, would you like to have a go at the authorities in North Korea and remove that country from the #1 position on the most wanted list ?
