OBITUARY PHIL
EMPEY - VE3EO |
He
is survived by his lovely wife Elsa, daughters Mary-Ann and Laurie, son Julian,
granddaughters Alicia, Ashley and Colleen and great grandson Devin.
Phil volunteered and served with the Canadian army in Italy during WWII as a member of the Signals Corps. He was a very active member of the Swansea branch of the Canadian Legion, regularly attending Remembrance Day ceremonies and the anuual Warriors Day parade at the CNE.
He joined The West Side Radio Club in the early 50’s and had been a very active member until his passing. In 1954 and again in 1955 he served as president of the club.
Although he suffered terribly from Rheumatoid Arthritis which crippled both hands he was a regular check in to our Sunday morning CW net and I was always amazed that he could send readable morse code with such a handicap.
It was always a pleasure to be around Phil with his great sense of humour, some of his stories were real ‘groaners’ but always good for a laugh at meetings or social functions.
A good Canadian, a good Ham and a wonderful human being, he will be sadly missed by his many friends.
Our thoughts are with Elsa and the family at this sad time.
